Wow! What a first day!

Good Evening!
So today was the first official day at work and I'm so sleepy! We woke up and went to work, walked all 2 mins to get there.  I can see where I work from my window! The day seemed pretty normal, started with orientations at the hospital, all the tests and even was screened for drugs! But yesterday I was out and about the town finding out what the locals do for fun and I found some neat things! Here are some pics of the town.

So this is one of the original signs built in the early 1900s that marks the beginning of a gold mining trail!

The really thin white line is the ice cap that is still in the water!
There is still snow along the beach!

More of the ice cap!

The biggest sled dog race in Alaska and Nome is the finish line!

The local grocery store... food is so expensive, I miss drinking milk all the time but it $8 for a gallon! CRAZY!!!

Some original wooden boats that were never finished that would have been used for fishing!

The hand-crafted wooden finish line for the sled race!

A view down Front St. It really looks like your in a western film!

A really cute sign on one of the local bars here in Nome.

Welcome to Nome, AK!

Howdy!

So it is really pretty here! The air is different and the people are very nice.  I thought that I should add some beginning pics of outside.  It is continuous sunlight out right now so even at night the sun will be out just like it was at 2pm today.  It is really strange having the time difference up here because I'm still on Texas time so my body wants me to get ready for bed soon but it's not close to the time for bed.  It is pretty chilly. The weather is about 50 degrees out and some slow winds but for being a Texas native I'm FREEZING! I hear that tomorrow there is going to be a parade and people are going to jump into the ocean... mind you the ice cap just left earlier this week and there is still a few ice blocks in the water, but if they want to jump in then I will be ready on dry land with my camera to capture it.

Well as some Alaskan natives would say to the people that live down below... See ya the "lower 48!"

"And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him."
Colossians 3:17 ESV

"His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence,"
2 Peter 1:3 ESV

Well its all about to start.

Howdy Everyone!

So I'm really excited because tomorrow I will start my journey to Alaska! I have been up all day trying to pack... because I like to do these things at the last minute. With the wonderful help from my mom, we have managed to get everything into the two suitcases and I'm praying that they are not over 50lbs each.  I have a long day of flights tomorrow I start in San Antonio, then move to Chicago, then to Seattle, the Anchorage where I have a layover from 2:30am to 11am. Then I finally arrive in Nome, AK! This whole blogging thing is really new to me so I will try very hard to keep up.
